Climbing Gym Affiliations

The majority of my work is conducted in diluted, easy to manage, indoor climbing environments. That means that without good climbing gyms to operate in, I’m out of a job.

Prowess is what is known as an external provider. That means that I am not contracted to work for any other business (other than on a freelance basis) and operate completely independently. You can hire me to work all over the country if you so desire.

What this means in practice is that I have developed good working relationships with several climbing gyms. These are businesses that know me, that I have run either sessions, courses or both and where I am completely comfortable.

This page is designed to give them a shout out and help strengthen those good relationships. After all, if I didn’t like the wall, I wouldn’t work there. Check out some of my favourites below.

Beacon Climbing Centre

Location: Caernarfon, Gwynedd, North Wales

My local wall in a geographical sense, I’ve been operating out of the Beacon since the very start. The Beacon is an outstanding lead climbing wall with excellent bouldering facilities, as well as having one of the best teaching environments I’ve come across.

I can be found in the Beacon on a weekly basis, certainly over the winter where it can sometimes become a second home. I have developed excellent relationships with the owner, chief instructor and staff, regularly conducting staff training both in house and via the BMC FUNdamentals workshops.

Indy Climbing Wall

Location: Llanfairpwll, Anglesey, North Wales

My spiritual home, I’ve been climbing in the Indy for many years. With some of the best bouldering I’ve visited nationwide, as well as the steepest lead wall in North Wales, this is not only an excellent workplace for me but also my personal playground. I’m often found in the Indy on Friday evenings with a voluntary club but can also be found running private sessions of BMC FUNdamentals workshops.

I know the owner and the staff well, am good friends with some of them and would quite happily spend not only wet days here but sunny ones too.

Creation Climbing Centre

Location: Moseley, Birmingham

My history at Creation goes way back to 2006, when I got my first job in the climbing industry here as an instructor. There was a long hiatus where the wall went through a great many changes , to the point where when I returned in 2022 and stepped through the door, I took a step back. But while there have been many improvements, some things remain pleasingly familiar.

I am still friendly with the ownership and many of the staff and regularly run BMC FUNdamentals courses here. With a good mix of lead, top rope and bouldering, this is a brilliant teaching facility. Moreover, it has a great vibe that really works well.

Flash Climbing Centre

Location: Solihull, West Midlands

My affiliation with Flash is quite new; not surprising given they only opened in 2018! Yet after a run of courses here, I was taken by the vibe of the place. The owners are friendly and welcoming; a trait which has found it’s way down to the staff on the whole, creating a first rate environment that encourages personal growth and performance naturally.

Flash is a bouldering only gym but has stretched that as far as they possibly can. With good training facilities, a gym and a personal trainer working there as well, Flash is a good place for pushing yourself or chilling with a pizza in equal measure. They even have a rare top-out boulder to practice those tricky mantles!

Redpoint Worcester

Location: Worcester

Another wall that I have recently worked with, Redpoint Worcester is another extensive facility covering top rope, sport climbing and bouldering alike; including a top rate top out boulder!

Redpoint Worcester is a bustling hub of activity, rarely quiet but with a good local scene that naturally encourages personal improvements.
