Purpose:
To begin to predict or, better still, plan your climbing sessions.
NOTE: this drill is best done after completing the Route/Problem Scorecard Drill
Where: wherever you like
You’ve got the whole wall to play with on this one. I’d suggest you mix it up along the way
When: Throughout the entire session
This drill is all about covering the whole session. I’ve only left the graph here as a bit of a hint…

The Drill:
The premise is simple. You get points for every climb you complete during the session. The harder the route, the more points you get.
Before you start, see if you can plan how many of each climb you will complete. (You could even calculate your xS, or Expected Score). Once you’ve got an idea of what you’re planning on doing, fill in the table below as you go through your session. Total up at the end. Then see how different your xS Score is from your Actual Total.
If you wish, there are downloadable sheets available below that you can print and use to record your efforts on your session.
The Outcome: How do you know when it’s working?
Over time, you should find that you are able to predict what you’ll be trying in your session before it happens.
As a consequence, you should then develop the ability to plan your sessions more effectively
