Drill: Good Things

Purpose:

To encourage you to develop a feeling of confidence and competence in your abilities by reflecting on positive experiences during your sessions.

Where: off the wall

As this drill is done after climbing has finished, it can be done anywhere; from packing up your kit, leaving the wall, driving home or once relaxed at home again.

When: during the Options Section or
after your session on the journey home

This drill is intended to be completed after you have finished climbing

The Drill:

  • Every Session: find three good things. Small things. These could be movement skills you’ve picked up, climbs you’re pleased with, having a bit more confidence.
  • Every third session: find one good thing. A bigger one. Something that has changed overall across all three sessions.

If possible, it might be worth writing these reflections down but it is not absolutely necessary

The Outcome: How do you know when it’s working?

Over time, you should find that you begin to develop more confidence in your performances by focusing on those aspects of your sessions you feel have gone well. You may also find that you begin the notice some patterns of improvements you’ve made in your climbing over time.
