Purpose:
To encourage you to psychologically recover during a route
Where: wherever you like, although slab or vert are slightly better
This drill can be done in any environment on any hold types but it’s tougher on overhangs
When: during the Learning Window
Climbs should be easy enough to allow thought process but not so easy as the drill feels contrived.

The Drill:
Select your chosen route and climb naturally
- At any point you feel you are secure, take a pause on the wall
- If the route up to then has been difficult, remind yourself ‘that’s all done now, reset and go again’
- If the route up to then has gone well, tell yourself ‘this is going really well, I’ve got some momentum, let’s go with it’
- After your brief pause, look up to your next holds and continue to the next rest point
The Outcome: How do you know when it’s working?
Over time, you should find that bad sections of climbs don’t complete derail your routes while building on good experiences during routes
