Drill: Start Again

Purpose:

To add pressure to your session, encouraging you to make good, solid decisions

Where: throughout the whole bouldering wall

This drill involves utilising the entire bouldering wall

When: during the Learning Window

You’ll slowly build the difficulty of climbs, so once you’ve done the initial warm up, crack on for as long as you can

The Drill:

To find the next climb on this drill, it will all depend on how well you do on the last climb…

  • First climb: start with the easiest grade available in the wall (e.g. 4a)
  • If you succeed on the climb, move on to the next grade (e.g. 4b)
  • Continue to progress through the grades, taking each in turn and only progressing once you succeed on the last
  • HOWEVER if you fail on a climb, at any grade, start again from the easiest climb again. Whether you fail on a 5a, 6a or 7a, the result remains the same

You can stop the drill once you reach your usual flash grade or try going into the next grade to see if you can push it higher

The Outcome: How do you know when it’s working?

You should find that this drill increases the pressure when trying climbs at sub flash grade. This should encourage you to increase your concentration and developing some coping mechanisms to be able to deal with this pressure
