Purpose:
To encourage you to take a moment after each failed attempt on a climb to do a very quick review on what you’ve just managed to do
Where: wherever you like
This drill can be done in any environment on any hold types.
When: during the Learning Window, Main or Options
You can complete this drill on any climb, although it is typically done on climbs on which you fail

The Drill:
Climb as normal but on every climb on which you fail:
- AS SOON AS YOU REACH THE FLOOR, stop where you are
- While you are stopped, pause for a moment (standing, sitting, lying, however you find yourself)
- During this pause, think about why you failed on the last effort. There are no wrong answers but consider options other than simply ‘I’m not strong enough’
The Outcome: How do you know when it’s working?
Over time, you should find that you develop better analysis skills to determine why you fail on climbs. You should also find that you begin to adjust your next effort to match the errors you are highlighting along the way
