Bouldering is unique in climbing: it is the only discipline where it is intended to fall to the ground. As such, teaching bouldering outdoors requires a change in attitude and approach and goes against the instincts developed by most established rock climbing instructors. This workshop is designed to allow you to teach outdoor bouldering safely and effectively, as well as understanding the unique differences inherent to the modern boulderer compared to trad or sports climbers.

What’s Covered on the Workshop?
This workshop looks to demonstrate effective methods of safeguarding climbers using:
- a Risk-Consequence Balance;
- the Hierarchy of Pads;
- methods of effective spotting to keep both climber and spotter free from injury;
- and other common practices used by established boulderers.
Our workshops run in North Wales. Given the vagaries of the weather, the specific crag chosen for the workshop will be selected nearer the time to accomodate current weather conditions. However it will be within easy commute of Llanberis and plenty of notice will be given for meet and greet. Transport is not provided and participants are expected to make their own way to the crag parking, which will be detailed in advance.
A series of course notes are included as part of the workshop.
